The Alboran Codex: A Conspiracy Thriller of Lost Empires, Hidden Agendas and a Deadly Pursuits (A Carter Devereux Mystery Thriller Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 1,294 ratings

A lost empire. A deadly secret. A battle for the future of humanity.

For nearly two thousand years, the Nabateans have remained hidden, secretly guiding events from the shadows. Now, their final plan is in motion—and only Carter Devereux can stop them. With his knowledge of the fabled City of the Giants and its ancient library, he stands as their greatest threat. Their orders are clear: take him down, no matter the cost.

Hunted across continents, Carter must unravel a mystery buried for centuries before the Nabateans reshape the world in their own image. But the closer he gets to the truth, the more dangerous the game becomes. Alliances are tested. Betrayals become lethal. And the clock is running out.

The Alboran Codex is the explosive sequel to The Wolves of Freydis and the third installment in the Carter Devereux Mystery Thriller series, where ancient secrets, deadly conspiracies and relentless action collide.

Review

"The Alboran Codex is my first JC Ryan read, but it certainly won't be my last. While not my usual genre, I absolutely loved it. Fast-paced, intriguing, dynamic, and witty, the author leads readers on a thrilling adventure I'd love to see brought to life on-screen. From the deserts of the Middle East to the catacombs of Paris, Washington, DC to Zürich, a Canadian stronghold to the Alboran Sea, the book spans places and millennia and a diverse cast of characters." (Candice Royer Editing on THE ALBORAN CODEX)
"Ryan's thrilling novel, The Alboran Codex, is the perfect balance between ancient history, science, and fiction. Educational, suspenseful and intriguing..." (MFR Publishers on THE ALBORAN CODEX)

I have been reading JC Ryan since his first book in the Rossler Foundation Mysteries series, The Tenth Cycle and enjoyed his writing immensely. After reading the last book in the Rossler series it was if there was a big void for me. I wanted to read more of Ryan’s work. Fortunately, I didn’t have to wait too long before he turned up with the Carter Devereux Mystery Thriller series with Nothing New Under The Sun which set the scene for the series and followed it with The Wolves of Freydis. Those two books exceeded all my expectations and got me hooked onto the new series right away.

I have been singing Ryan’s praises for a long time now and on more than one occasion, after reading his latest book I have made comments such as “one of the best, if not the best” but this time I MUST go beyond that. This third book in the Carter Devereux series — The Alboran Codex — towers head and shoulders above them all.

The Alboran Codex is the sequel to the best-selling Wolves of Freydis and continues where that one ended. This book meets and exceeds all my criteria for a good book. It starts with a prologue that drags you in immediately and doesn’t disappoint. It has clean dialogue, a brilliant plot, action, intrigue, and spine-chilling suspense.

Those majestic wolves are back and they didn’t disappoint at all. However, this time it is not only the wolves who help to deliver them from evil… all I can say is, buckle up for 433 pages of excitement, intrigue and suspense.

There is so much more to this book and this series. Ryan is mixing ancient history and modern day events, fact and fiction in such a unique way that I had to constantly ask myself where the one starts and the other ends. I don’t want to know how many days and weeks were spent on research — it must have been significant and the result was a brilliant book. I cant remember was when the last time I enjoyed a book so much.

With The Alboran Codex JC Ryan has demonstrated that he is an accomplished author - on par with the best in the archaeological mystery-suspense genre.

For the fans of Clive Cussler, James Rollins, Dan Brown, Andy McDermott, Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child, A.G. Riddle and others in this genre I highly recommend that you take a look at JC Ryan’s books. You will not be disappointed.

How could the Nabateans take the promises given to them by God and twist it into their greed for money and power. They feel they have the right to kidnap and kill any man, woman or child and have absolutely no remorse. Thank God there are still some people who care enough about humanity to fight this ancient evil covenant council to keep them from taking complete control of the Earth. I love the wolves of Freud's and the bond Mackenzie has with them. The ability to communicate with the highly intelligent dolphin species is just amazing. Carter and Mackenzie and their family and friends are such vital and engaging characters. This is the third amazing book in this series. I am so looking forward to the fourth book.

OK People, This is a review of The Carter Devereux series which includes "Nothing New Under the Sun", "The Wolves of Freydis", and the book I just finished reading "The Alboran Codex", the third but not final ( I hope ) book of the series. Be prepared to be glued to you iPad, Kindle, or whatever reading device you use, for the duration of the series to date. The advantage of getting this series now, is you will be able to read all 3 books consecutively without a break in the action, so to speak, and there is plenty of it. The author has blended fact, fiction, adventure, intrigue,
and some very abstract but believable theories on ancient archaeology and animal intelligence. I was so immersed in the story line that I actually felt as if I knew the characters and became emotionally involved (in a good way) as the plot changed direction enough to keep you guessing what was coming next. Its more then the classic good guys vs bad guys routine but more inventive with a lot of mind boggling ideas about our human ancestors and potential for disaster from knowledge gained and in the wrong hands. The books flow together effortlessly and as soon as you finish the first book you will be ready to charge into the next one immediately. I thoroughly enjoyed these books and you will too JJ

I would give this book 5 stars if I had read the previous books in the series. As it is, this is my first JC Ryan book. Though I did enjoy it, I was very confused for much of the beginning including trying to figure out who Carter Devereux was. Well into the book the guy, his wife who had been held hostage in the Middle East for 10 months, his 6 year old son (also held hostage in prison for 10 months and his baby daughter (actually born while mom was a prisoner) were “introduced”. Saying introduced is a long shot as all this info and, obviously a ton of other info, was dumped on the reader. So, after getting through the main characters and realizing the evil characters also have a huge history, we get into a book that is pretty good. However, if you like a standalone store, this is not the book for you.
